I currently have a 14.25 x 14 OJ prop on my boat, as the number goes higher (the "14") does this mean it adds more top end and less torque out of the holeshot?

For example a 14.25 x 17 would have less torque and more top end then a 14.25 x 14 prop?

Yes, that's right. Just like gears on your car - the taller the gears (lower number) the more top end, but less hole shot. Of course it takes more horsepower to turn a bigger prop, so there is a trade-off.

Yes, you are correct. The 17 would have more top end and less torque than the 14.

Fman, an increase in pitch by 3 will decrease rpm by about 600. If your at the upper end of WOT range then shouldnt be a prob, if your at the lower end then you'll be over proping your motor. You wouldn't want to weight your boat perhaps as this could put alot more strain on the engine. An increase in cup on a prop also will give you better bite and increase your top end. The 13.7 x 17.5 prop is the standard on most these boats, but with increased ballast some find the hole shot slow. Depends on size of boat and motor size and what your wot rpm is now at what ballast......some food for thought
