Questions about engine and tranny
I have an 88 Supra Bravura, I am trying to figure out what type of ignition system I have. What is the best way to tell if I have a Pro-tec or standard igition?
Also, what is the best tranny fluid to use on the Warner Velvet drive 1:1 tranny.
Lastly, is Dexron or Dexron II the same as Dexron III?
Thanks.

I had a protech on my 91 Supra. It had a black box on the back of the engine that all the plugs ran into. If I remember right the box was about 10-12 inches long and 5 inches wide.

I had a '92 Malibu with a 1:1 Velvet drive and it used 10W hydraulic oil. I called Borg-Warner and they said they would not change it to Dexron. If your fluid is red it is Dexron , if it is about the same color as motor oil it is most likely the 10W hydraulic oil.Not sure about the difference in the Dexrons but I have seen car transmissions that say you can use any of them.

Dex II and III are same as far as your tranny knows. My borg 1:1 has dexron 3 in it. I don't know about ignition...mine is after market.
