I have an older supra comp ts6m, when i turn the key all i get is a buzzing from the ignition resistor, could the resistor be bad and would that cause the engine not to turn over?

no the resistor just supplies voltage to the coil but the resistor is mounted to the same bracket as the starter relay and that is what is buzzing it usually does that when the battery is low
Angus is right low battery or bad connection.
Test it by shorting out the two terminals on the starter with a screwdriver. If this doesn't work then you have a low battery or bad connections to the terminals. (Or a bad starter)
