Default Transmission Fluid Change - 89 Comp, PCM 40A Transmission, 1:1.23 Ratio

What ATF Fluid should I be using? Can't find ATF type A fluid called out on the tag but I believe the replacement is Dex/Merc. Not 100% sure...

Also, I have a small leak, are there any concerns with adding a bar's stop leak type product to my transmission? I was considering using Bar's Super Transmission Fix product. It's a synthetic blend for all transmissions but not sure if it would be compatible with the Dex/Merc ATF... Transmission preforms great but drips a little into the bilge. I also hear some chattering in the transmission when I put it into gear (idle speed - chatter goes away at higher RPM) while it's warming up. Once everything is warm, I don't notice any chatter in gear, at idle speed...

I use dex for the trans fluid.
The chattering sounds like the flex plate in your trans needs to be replaced.
    Not uncommon.

Thanks for the feedback... I've been told that finding rebuild parts for this transmission will be difficult...

Please don't put that stop leak stuff in your transmission. Get it fixed right first or pay to fix the sludge and further damage from the stop-leak.

Hard parts and clutched might be difficult to find, but seals are readily available. https://skidim.com/drivetrain/transmissions/pcm-40-series-parts.html

Agree with the above on the damper plate. You might get relief by rasing the idle speed a smidge. Spec calls for 600 RPM IN GEAR and UNDERWAY

Start with any Dexron ATF and bumping the idle a bit and see where you end up. The leak needs to be addressed through.

Planning on getting the leak fixed the right way, thank for your feedback and advise on the noise. Replacing the seals is probably a good winter project and will live with a few drips until this fall.
