Adding caster wheels to trailer

I am considering doing this in the near future, I saw nothing on the boatmate website for adding these. Has anyone bolted on some caster wheels under the prop guard to alleviate any scraping on steep incline/declines? and if yes, where did you pick up the wheels?

Just a thought- my friends Comp has a dual axel trailer- think it's a boatmate- with same issue. He had some iron welded on it as he said he was afraid wheels would get ripped off during a not so smooth transition. That area definetly sees the ground. He is two hours away or i would snap a pic. Again just a thought. Good luck.

I have seen casters under the prop guard on my friend's Malibu trailer. they were about 2 inches wide from what I remember and low profile. Don't remember much more about it other than they seemed like a really good idea...

My only thought is: if I added caster below my prop cage, their wouldn't be any clearance at all. I think that if caster brackets could be fabricated to mount the casters beside the cage, so that the casters would only be slightly lower than the cage, would be possible. This might help.

My trailer prop cage has two skid plates featuring lead-in ramps on both the front and the back ends which seem to work just fine, and I often drive on and off of a ferry boat at high and low tides (severe ramp transitions) with my 30 ft motor home (with long overhang) towing the boat and trailer. I've ground the cage (gently) many times with no issue.

My two cents: Skid plates would be easier, cheaper, and take up less room than casters.

Had a leaf spring break and had to get trailer and boat towed... Since I first saw this post i have seen more trailers with tiny little burley wheels under them. Anyhow- with the abuse I saw my trailer take last friday during the loading process- I think the wheels may have helped- just maybe. The gash in the asphalt was impressive.Attachment 3346

Those look perfect, plan on putting them on my trailer this summer.
