    I agree that checking for loose / worn parts like the clamp block, based on the symptoms, is the way to go before filing. I have a good used clamp block, if yours is all beat up or bent.

    Thanks Guys...and to Mikey. Mikey you reminded me that I had not packed the rudder and cable full of grease. I installed the new rudder and cable and at the time didnt have any grease for the grease gun and I was eager to get her on the water. I packed the rudder full of grease, then packed the steering cables and tightened up all of the linkages. It made a big difference. I was able to go WOT for the first time this year. Boy did it feel good. It still has a few small quirks that maybe filing would correct but at this point I am going to leave well enought alone.
