Default Is my boat drive by wire or not?

Upgrading Perfect Pass Wakeboard Pro to Stargazer. Yes, two years later than I thought I would do it, but my paddle wheel did not get destroyed once after my marina killed 3 in a summer.

I have a 2007 Sunsport with the Indmar 325 assault engine. PerfectPass says it is drive by wire. My Indmar manual says it is electronic throttle control.

Is that Drive by Wire? Want to make sure I get the proper parts!

    Thanks

I think they are both right. I know that on my '06, the PP is DBW. What my mechanic told me is that the engine is DBW, but for some reason they have a mechanical throttle from the helm to the engine, where it is converted to a DBW signal. I probably don't have the particulars right, but I have not known him to be wrong.

    Thanks.

Perfect Pass and Skiers Choice said my boat was Drive by Wire for sure.
My dealer said it was mechanical for sure.

I feel much better for my confusion.

I'm going with the 2-1 victory with Drive by Wire and order that! I can always swap it out later when I get out to the boat and try install it and it is the wrong one.

Most new boats are DBW but you can always confirm by calling Supra or Perfect Pass. I recommend the latter because they will give you gobs of PPass info.

Drive by Wire and Electronic Throttle Control are both the same thing. Just a different name.

Go with the DBR setup and your should be good to go.

For the record, there are two kinds of Perfect Pass. DBW and mechanical assist. If your boat is not DBW, then the PP needs a servo motor and a different model 'brain' or main electrical housing unit. The two types are not compatible. I outline them both in my Mod thread DIY Perfect Pass.

Did you order from Perfect Pass? They would not let you get the wrong thing. Congrats on the order, you lucky!!

yep, got it from perfectpass using OnlyInboards.com as the conduit. Got a much beter price that way. In fact Ian from OnlyInboards is working with several people on a group buy on Wakeworld.com right now.

PerfectPass were the original ones who stopped the order when placed because they said my boat was Drive by Wire. You are right Mikey, they wouldn't let me order the wrong one!

My dealer is still insisting that my boat is Mechanical assist. I will find out in a few weeks when I get out to the boat and install it.

Yep I can't wait....nothing worse than getting out to the lake and finding out my paddle wheel is damaged and perfectpass does not work in mph mode. You can limp by in rpm mode but my kids aren't happy as they seem to have very strict standards on how fast I am driving when they are boarding!

    Didn't go with the GPS?

Personally I'm on a river so I need paddlewheel (which I would also need to install, hehehe)

when you on a river I thought you needed to go GPS? The paddle wheel will read wrong depending on which way you are going relative to the current.

Mythbusters proved this concept with the airplanes taking off from a conveyor belt.

    Or am I mistaken?
