Jason, mind posting a link to the exact ones you purchased? I know they've got a few different styles, thanks!

I dont know what type of bulb I have in the 2009, but it is WAY too bright. Blinding, actually. Kills your night vision. I want something very low light, just enough to safely read the gauges.

I put gauges out of an 05 Outback in my dash & they had green rubber covers over the bulbs. I removed the rubber covers, but the white light was too bright & too boring. I swapped in some led's from superbrightleds, but the "blacklight" color I chose were too dim & didn't give the white faces the pop I expected. Then I swapped the blacklight with red (x6 for the larger face speedo's & tach, x5 for the smaller engine gauges) & they're just right (plus they match the red in my depthfinder that I can't change). IIRC, you could put a put a dimmer on the superbrightled xx's to adjust the output to your liking.

Awesome, thanks for the input guys, that was exactly what I was looking for! Currently, my speedos and tach are dimmer than the other gauges. So I think I'll get the x6's for the three main gauges and the x5's for the smaller ones. I also have a depth finder with a set, boring, warm light so that's kind of a bummer but I think blue everywhere else will look nice.

I ended up going with red LED's to replace my old gauge lights. Here's a crappy picture of the results but I REALLY like the way it turned out. This picture was taken before I had the speedo bulbs in so those aren't illuminated. The red looks awesome because it doesn't kill night vision and it compliments my blue LED accents in the boat perfectly (also have red EQ, head unit, and amp lights). Also, I'll post the links to the lights I purchased.
