    Default Radio Mount

Well...I took the boat out today and after about 30 minutes of riding I came back in the boat to change playlists on the iPod but when I opened the glovebox the radio was GONE! It had fallen straight through the hole where it was mounted.

With that being said, how do you guys have your radios mounted? I will obviously have to cone with something different because there is absolutely nothing holding the cd player/radio in it's place. The lake here gets quite choppy in places so I will need it to be sturdy.

    Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

    Ok so here's the update:

I have removed the glovebox where the radio was "mounted". I have started to fiberglass a cubby that I can mount the radio into. I've played with fiberglass a time or two in the past so this project doesnt seem too hard, but we all know how that goes.

My plan is to build an extension off of the back of the glovebox where the radio can sit. I will then reinforce the fiberglass from the bottom in hopes of it supporting the weight. To further help, I will be fiberglassing a few metal "L" brackets to the hull to support the bulk of the weight from the CD player.

Obviously the last thing I want is for my cd player to fall through the dash again. If this doesnt do the trick then I'll start over and assess the situation again.

P.S. Sorry for the crappy pictures. The lighting is bad at 11:00pm

Once I get all of the cracks repaired and the cubby built, trimmed and sanded I will obviously need to repaint the entire glove box. A new piece of Plexiglass will accompany the top as well.

Is that box solid without any way to vent the heat generated by the head unit?

Absolutely not. This looks a lot bigger than it actually is. The back side is taped off in order to keep the resin from running into the "cubby". Once everything dries I will trim it and pre-fit the radio. The cubby only holds about 1/3 of the actual receiver which leaves the other 2/3 free to dissipate the heat generated.

Thanks man! I started on it Monday, but came down with a virus and havent had a chance to get back in the garage to work on it. A few more layers of glass and chop mat and it should be sturdy enough to hold the head unit. After it's trimmed to fit, sanded then painted it should be a night and day's difference.

    I'll keep everyone posted.

LMAO..mine did that a few years back. So I moved it to the drivers footwell by my left knee mounted horizontal with one of these. Then another time, I opened it up and it had 3' of water in it from the rain the night before. Boat owners..do we have stories.

Dont forget to drill you a little hole in each corner of the glovebox so It wont hold water. Its better for it to drian into the carpet.
