    Default 1986 supra

I just bought a 1986 supra and I'm having trouble finding where to hook up a garden hose to. Run the boat out of the water. Can anybody help?

The water intake is behind the engine on the non-driver side, just next to where the shaft goes through the hull. Take a screw driver and loosen the hose clamp and pull the hose from the pipe that goes through the hull. Put your garden hose inside the intake hose that you just pulled loose and tighten the clamp back down to connect the intake and garden hose. Make sure to turn the water on before starting the engine. You may want to have another person to help so that you can watch the hoses and make sure you are not forcing too much water through the lines and also make sure the hoses are not kinking due to needing more water. The extra person is to help control the water pressure.

The other option is to disconnect your intake line and drop it into a bucket of water with the garden hose running into it and the engine will draw as much water as it needs. This is the best way to keep from damaging anything.

you can also get adapters. there's one that looks exactly like a toilet plunger that you put under the hull.

or, this adapter lets you hook up the hose to the transmission cooler under the doghouse:

made that at home depot for about $15

whatever you use, in this pic, the hose with the green stripe is the water intake. it's connected to the transmission cooler. that leads to the impeller and then to the engine block. either crawl under with the plunger to the intake or disconnect a hose.

Another method is to break a connection in the water line somewhere between the transmission cooler and thru-hull. Slide on a 5' to 6' section of 1-1/4" hose on the suction side and place the other end in a 5 gal bucket sitting on the boat floor. Put a garden hose in the bucket & partially fill before you start the engine. Then adjust the water flow from the garden hose to match what the raw water pump is sucking in. No fittings required, but gotta monitor the bucket & make sure it doesn't overflow or run dry.

For $20 you can get a FakeALake, for $2 you can adapt a toilet plunger or get one of these:

    Works great.

Mine came with a hose adapter right in line off the intake grate. I just unscrew the gate valve on that one, screw in the gate valve on the intake grate and hook up a hose. I always assumed it was built that way from the factory since it's all brass and looks like it's been there forever.

I guess a previous owner just did 1 thing right!

Good grief, I just take a screwdriver, loosen the hose clamp at the raw water filter and pull the hose off. Then I just shove a garden hose down into the coolant hose, point downwards and turn it on. Rinses out the bilge while you're at it.

Maybe I'll get fancy this winter when I put in a ball valve with a pop on system like bdumas, but right now redneck engineering works just fine.
