Default WTB: Drive shaft for '89 Comp

Anybody have a drive shaft for an '89 Comp? Mine broke in half yesterday, and a new one from Discount Marine is over $300.

Salty87 - you're in Austin, TX? Me too. Where did you get your drive shaft? I called South Austin Marine, and they quoted me $288.

I just got back from my boat, and it looks like the strut is bent pretty bad. Just to make sure, when you take your drive shaft out, does it come out on the passenger or driver's side of the rudder? My strut looked twisted, and the bottom half of my shaft came out on the driver's side of the rudder.

i forgot to answer your other question....

shaft came out the driver's side of the rudder, so gladd too....didn't want to have to drop the rudder.

nettles can help with the strut too, they're really good with bent stuff.

I dropped my prop off at Nettles today, but they were pretty expensive on the shaft because mine is a dual taper shaft. They said once I add in the coupler and freight, it would be close to $270. A factory one from Skier's Choice was $288, so I'll probably go that route.

Where do you usually put in? I normally go to Lake Austin, and put in up North at Steiner Ranch.

    juice,

sorry, snuck a little vacation in...

    i'm so close....apache shores!

did you get your rig running for the holiday weekend? i ripped my dripless shaft seal sliding the shaft in so i'm not going to be in the water this weekend. i didn't know that supra made their own dripless seals back in the day, worked like a charm too. i don't want to buy a new dripless system and don't want to go with the rope packing.

    decisions, decisions...

good luck with yours, we should meet up sometime!

    Hey Salty87,

Apache Shores....isn't that North of Steiner?

I didn't get my boat together yet. All of the parts came in today, and I'm planning on putting it together Sunday. Going out with a friend on his X80 tomorrow. Never been behind a boat that big. Ought to be a little different than my 19' Comp!

Give me a shout sometime, and we'll hit out.

selle92 - thanks for the lead, but my new shaft came in the mail today! Planning on putting it back together Sunday. I'm hoping it goes together as easy as it came apart.
