I started my carb rebuild today. What's the trick to removing residual gasket material?

gasket scraper or razor blade for the thick stuff. For what's left I use a line sander everywhere that I can, if ensures a good flat surface. Wherever I can't get a line sander I'll use a soft wire brush on a die grinder at lower RPM. If you don't have air, sandpaper and an assortment of brushes will get it done.

Soak in acetone to soften, then scrape with razor blade.
