Back to more pics of the boat. At this point, exterior was wet sanded and looking incredible but the inside of the boat was dull and chalky white. Windshield was removed to gain better access to polish dash. The entire inside of boat was wet sanded, polished and waxed.
Old carpet was then pulled for new carpet. The search for red marine carpet matching the original is very limited even as 90% of the world's carpet is made here in Georgia. We did find a 20 ounce rubber backed that was a fraction of shade off original.
Getting it under the OB seat was a bit tricky but doable.

Still wiping my eyes. The wave and strips put that extra touch of original class. This will be the boat you will think about or want to be in every time you break glass on that beautiful mountain lake.
Thanks NoWake. Trying to make it as cool as yours and hope to break glass as often as you do. Not sure that will happen, but we have to set some goals right?
I'm itching to see my Rider and Comp on the lifts next to each other after these new restorations but that could be another year or so down the road. In the future, I would sell the Sunsport 242 but these boats will stay with me till I'm a very old man. Love surfing but it kinda gets boring after awhile going slow, stop, circle, repeat.
Here's some close ups. I duplicated the stripes, waves, and exterior lettering best I could...even the Kevlar SupraTrac logo. I also have AME 400 decal that is very similar to original and may put it back on the rear transom as before. You can see that in earlier pages prior to wetsand. Haven't fully committed to that option but I like originality and wear the "80s rainbow stripe" badge with honor.
That mirror reflection is just sweet to look at.

Upon first inspection of this boat in Dec of '18, I noticed that the swim platform was missing the center bracket and thought no more of it. Once I got it home three months later, it became apparent due to said missing bracket, the platform had warped and cracked. Maybe hard to tell from pic, but it was not straight and had plenty of gel cracks around the edges.
The same shop did the work since my boat was already there and both would need some white gelcoat to repair. I didn't think it would need a lot to fix but once opened up, the platform was determined to have balsa wood as the main core which had become completely rotten. It was now going to have to be rebuilt and made stronger. Out came the balsa and replaced with Coosa board with marine plywood at the support locations for long term strength for screws. Once fiberglassed over, gel repair took place finished with a good buff and polish.
It now lays flat, is super strong, looks great and definitely weighs a bit more than an original. Will be going with SeaDek to replace the original thin black padding.

"I didn't think it would need a lot to fix..." famous last words! I recently went about fixing my old blacksmith forge with the help of this guide, and it ended up taking way longer than I thought it would. I appreciate the wealth of pictures in this thread.
