Buying a Supra 85 Comp

Hello all, I'm new to the forum, but, after spending an afternoon reading through quite a few threads, have a question to ask of all of you experts.

My girlfriend is thinking of buying her first boat, and we have one in mind. We're to the point where we have offered the guy an amount, and we are going to go look at it to finalize the deal (it's a 4 hour drive). I just wanted to see what some of you thought about the kind of deal she's getting on the boat, and if any of you had any concerns, I would greatly appreciate hearing them. Anyway, here is the boat. He's willing to sell for 4500 after a little negotiation. What do you think?

We would be mainly using this for wakeboarding, as I have quite a bit of wakeboard experience, and my girlfriend LOVES it. Is this a good boat for wakeboarding if you add weight to the back? Thanks, everyone!

From what I have read the comps have a sweet wake for skiing due to the low profile of the hull.

It's not wake boat will produce decent waves if you weight it but then you won't have much walkin room. You want to ask about the floor if it's been replaced and stringers weren't I would be Leary. These boats like to rot stringers from the factory

a wonderful design for its intended purpose, slalom & speed. lots of guys running comps on these boards. probably the most common model judging by all of the comp threads.

but, as posted above, they have some limitations. not much room for ballast and it will need it for boarding. not much room for friends. 4 people plus gear and you'll be jammed full.

your price range is a risky one. chances are the floor hasn't been rebuilt. in that case, it's only a matter of time before it will need it. cheap boats often end up being alot more expensive than you think once you factor in major repairs.

what kind of boats do you normally board behind?

So, after reading some more on the forums, and doing some more research, I think I'm understanding that the Supra Sunsport seems to be the right choice for us. We definitely want to be able to have friends on it, and the one I linked doesn't even have a back seat. I guess it seemed like a much better deal than it actually is. The thing is, the budget ceiling is kind of around 5000. She could go a little higher if it was an exceptional boat, but she's not wanting to spend much more than that. Is it possible to get a quality Supra Sunsport somewhere around 85-88 for that price?

Normally I board behind an outboard Triton fish/ski. It doesn't produce a very good wake. I HAVE boarded behind a few wakeboarding boats before, and the difference is insane.

Out of curiosity, if replacing the floor is a really common thing to do on these boats, exactly how hard is it to do? Is it a pretty hellish process? Or, with a little research, could we potentially do it ourselves? Thanks so much everyone for all the advice and feedback!

Just search stringer repair. You will find lots of info on the job. Here are a few boats I found around your price range. This sounds like it is way to much of a hassle/gamble. I think we are going to go with an all fiberglass boat. Thank you for all the information .
