with that being said my ignition resistor was shot and I am replacing it. Does the wire run from that to the coil or just from the wiring harness? Thanks

I'm a little lost with your question. The ballast resistor usaully has nothing to do with the tach. If you're replacing the resistor, just reconnect the wires. The signal to the tach may come from the wiring harness or a direct wire to the tach from the coil. Without tracing the wire or looking at a wiring diagram it's hard to advise you.

Crawl under the dash and look at the wire colors going into the Tach, then look at the coil wires. If anything matches check continuity. If nothing matches, you need a diagram to follow flow.

I may have a wiring diagram at the Lake, with the boat, I'll be there the following weekend, if you don't find an answer by then let me know.

Also worth mentioning... the ballast resistor is unnecessary if you've converted over to an electronic ignition system.

At least... I think it is.
