Cockpit depth?

My wife is still not keen on this wakeboard boat purchase as we are coming from a 20ft SunRay Prelude that had massive cockpit depth making you feel very secure and safe. Looking at Ski Supremes, SunSports and Saltares.....all 80's boats where might they fit in the world of that feeling of safe and secure for my wife?

Sunsports, Saltares, and certain ski supremes are quite deep...I think you'll be surprised once you start seeing some in person.

The Saltare has plenty of freeboard and offers a very dry ride. SunSport should be similar.

And she won't feel keen at first. They are all lower than the SunRay's freeboard, and windshield. But treat it like an optical illusion............

While the SunRay does feel more secure, you are less secure in that type of boat. That type of boat weighs about 1200lbs less, and is designed to ride above the water which makes it vulnerable to violent movements. The Supra's ride in the water, and have tracking fins making them very stable with precise handling skills. Basically the only way to get a Supra to "buck" is to ramp a cruiser wave, or do 180's like we used to do in the Comps. The Supra will feel more planted and solid when she rides in it.


The Supra Saltare and Supra Sunsport would be right up your alley. Very large, very deep, and very heavy boats. They ride great, track well, and are very solid. As soon as you ride in one, you can tell. I have friends that don't ride with my friend in his ebbtide because it's just too out of control feeling. It bounces and turns so violently and severe (leaning when turning). They get in mine and they know it's staying very upright and it's much smoother.

What ever you do, do not take her in a Comp, Mariah, Conbrio, or Bravura. Those are the Ferrari's of the Supra line. Low profile, light weight, and are right down on the water. Those boats take getting used to if you haven't been in them before.

The only way she's not going to feel safe in a Sunsport or Saltare is if she is standing up and you crank the wheel from 12 o'clock to about 4 o'clock without telling her to hold on!

Once you've driven a ski boat, you never want to drive anything else!

these boats are built solid and track great!
once you spent a bit of time in one and go back to the Sea Ray you will see what we are talking about.
You will never go back!
